This course is a study of North American indigenous and naturalized herbs, remedies and formulas. Course materials introduce the major active constituents and therapeutic actions of the herbs, the appropriate cautions and contraindications for the herbs studied, including potential herb/drug interactions, and the historical uses and current research on therapeutic uses of the herbs. Students will receive a broad introduction to herbal medicinal actions, the history, constituents, and current uses of various medicinal plants, and herbal preparations.

Alexis is a Clinical Herbalist and the Program Director of Therapeutic Herbal Medicine programs at the Institute of Traditional Medicine. Alexis holds professional membership with the Ontario Herbalist Association (OHA), and is a student of Ayurveda Medicine. Alexis practices herbal medicine in Toronto, ON, with a focus on women's health, paediatrics, and family medicine.
