This course introduces the basic principles and processes, theories and manufacturing techniques, quality control and application of preparing medicines from plant material. It includes methods of extraction, pharmacopoeia preparations, liquid preparations for internal and external use, solid preparations for internal and external use, semi-solid preparations for external use, dispensing, prescription writing and posology, processing and storing herbs. Students learn the methods of modern science and technology as well as traditional medicine theories and processes for herbal preparations.

Melanie Hill is a Registered Medical Herbalist, and an Interning Acupuncturist. She completed her herbal + acupuncture studies at The Institute of Traditional Medicine under a diverse and inspiring faculty. Her focus is on plant + food based medicine, often incorporating a mix of modalities that are best suited to her clients wants + needs.
